Parlor Games

From airplane interiors to avant-garde treatments, the coolest salons in London are getting cheeky.

London’s beauty pack has had just about all they can take of downbeat salons with nothing but some dated, dog-eared magazines and flickering scented candles for company in the waiting area. Which is why they’re hotfooting it off the main high streets and booking it into a new breed of beauty destinations that are a whole lot cooler:

Getting your weekly mani is a hell of a lot less monotonous now that MW Nails has opened its doors. This quirky new Spitalfields venue looks like the inside of an airplane – complete with vintage Air France passenger seats for mani/pedi thrones and therapists who come kitted out in 1970s air stewardess' uniforms. ‘Check in’ for a Captain’s Cockpit manicure and a Perfect Panama pedi – or book your ticket for one of their Monte Carlo Minx foil wrap designs.

Book in for a cut, color and blow-out, order their signature cinnamon and vodka cocktail, then head to the pirate ship bathrooms that come complete with portholes.

Those that get bored at the backwash can gaze at the 'ceiling art' by London's hottest artists, designers and illustrators. Originally opened as a barber’s shop in 1929, this salon has been updated with all the mod cons but still has the quirky hallmarks of something distinctly British. Kick back in an original 1930s chrome barber’s chair and admire the art deco touches as you get a cut, color and blow-dry. Or, book in for their Filthy Gorgeous nail service and get your tips topped with their holographic nail finishes. Their menu of old school gentleman’s grooming services means they’ll also get your other half ship shape while you beautify.
