Q&A with Mark Wahlberg
The Pain & Gain star on building muscle, eating escargot and reading the Bible.
I only had about 4 weeks after finishing the movie right before Pain & Gain to go from my lightest (165 lbs) to my heaviest (212 lbs). I did a lot of old school heavy lifting to bulk up. I also ate ten meals a day, which sounds fun, but after a few weeks it was less fun having to wake up in the middle of the night to stuff my face. Lots of protein shakes and supplements too.
How his training changed after filming:
I went back to cardio, a lot of basketball and boxing.
Best advice he's gotten from a trainer or nutritionist:
Eat small, clean meals frequently and take proper rest days during training — 2 days on, 1 day off.
What he did to work out this week:
What didn't I do this week? I'm getting ready to shoot the next Transformers, so I'm pushing hard.
Favorite healthy meal:
Tuna salad I make at home or sushi at Matsuhisa in LA.
Ultimate decadent meal:
L'Ami Louis in Paris: frogs legs, escargot, roast chicken, veal chops, potatoes and lots of red wine.
Cashews and almonds.
What he's totally over:
Chocolate chip cookies.
Best gift he's ever received:
My wife and kids.
What totally relaxes him:

It used to be chocolate chip cookies, I don't really have one at the moment.
Who has made him feel star struck or tongue-tied:
Three things still on his bucket list:
Playing a round at Bandon Dunes golf course, getting my high school diploma, and retirement.
Number one reason for taking care of his body:
Feeling good every day, living healthy and long.
