"He was an intense, heavy kind of energy, which didn't surprise me. It was a very bare studio, very undone, and he was talking, he was showing attitude, he was singing sometimes. He wound up buying these photographs afterward; his record company was like these are the best pictures, John looks great but besides that it's really an expressive side of him and he usually doesn't give that. Some people get in front of your camera and they just go; he was kind of slow, and you had to be ready for his tempo. You always have to be on their sheet of music, so to speak."
